Moss growth - If the growth of moss on your roof is caught early, you can have a couple of shingles replaced and be ready to go. However, if you are not aware of the moss growth on your roof then it will likely get out of hand fast. When it rains the moss absorbs the moisture from the rain, which promotes growth and helps the algae spread further across your roof. The moss may seem harmless, but it destroys the outer layer of protection on your roof. Since the protective layer on your roof is slowly disappearing, the best thing you can do is get a full roof replacement.
Light is shining through your roof - Whether it is your attic or the upper level of your home if you notice light shining through the ceiling, then your roof probably has a hole in it. This is an issue that needs to be taken care of immediately because the hole could be an entry point for rain or small animals to enter your home. In rare cases, the hole in your roof will be able to be fixed without a full roof replacement, but it depends on the severity of the damage.
